Chiropractic Physical and Soft Tissue Therapy

Mechanical Traction

Mechanical Traction is a very effective non-surgical procedure for relieving low back, neck, arm, and leg pain. It is also a highly succussful treatment for patients suffering with carpal tunnel syndrome and herniated or degenerated discs.

Mechanical Traction is a highly successful alternative to surgery for disc injuries. Mechanical Traction reduces the pressure on discs through a gentle traction force, allowing for improved circulation and exchange of fluids within the disc.

This passive therapy, combined with electrical muscle stimulation to relax your muscles and ligaments, will expedite the healing process.

Specific exercises will be prescribed to help you regain control and strengthen weakened muscles, which will help prevent a recurrence of the disc injury.

Therapeutic Massage

Massage therapy is recognized as one of the oldest methods of healing. In addition to "rubbing," massage therapy, often referred to as bodywork or somatic therapy, refers to the application of various techniques to the muscular structure and soft tissues of the body that include applying fixed or movable pressure, holding, vibration, rocking, friction, kneading and compression using primarily the hands and state-of-the art devices.

All of the techniques are used for the benefit of the musculoskeletal, circulatory-lymphatic, nervous, and other systems of the body. In fact, massage therapy positively influences overall health and well-being.

Physical and Mental Benefits of Therapeutic Massage:

• relaxes the whole body

• loosens tight muscles

• relieves tired and aching muscles

• increases flexibility and range of motion

• diminishes chronic pain

• calms the nervous system

• lowers blood pressure

• lowers heart rate

• enhances skin tone

• assists in injury or illness recovery

• strengthens the immune system

• reduces tension headaches

• reduces mental stress

• improves concentration

• promotes restful sleep

• aids in mental relaxation

Neuromuscular Reeducation

Neuromuscular Reeducation focuses on the reflexes in areas of the body that detect and respond to irritation. Persistent irritation produces a chronic pain cycle within the body and often leads to an ingraining of the pain message in the neural pathways.

These neural pathways generate trigger points that may refer the pain elsewhere in the body. Trigger points are often felt as "knots" in the muscles of the back, but can be found throughout the skeletal muscles of the body.

Neuromuscular Reeducation lessens the muscular tension and restriction that causes pain, and lengthens and strengthens connective tissue (fascia).

By helping identify personal behaviors that play a role in perpetuating pain, we are able to change the ways we move and use our body that causes us pain and discomfort.

By creating new ways of resting, holding, and using our body, we are able to move with more efficiency and balance in our daily lives, and thus reducing physical pain and eliminating the cycle of pain.

It is beneficial for individuals with chronic pain associated with tendonitis, repetitive strain injury, and poor posture. Neuromuscular

Reeducation is effective is helping us change the movement patterns that often are the source of physical pain.

Trigger Point Therapy

Trigger point therapy is a bodywork technique that involves the applying of pressure to tender muscle tissue in order to relieve pain and dysfunction in other parts of the body. Sometimes massage and trigger point therapy are performed together.

PNF Stretching

Depending on your condition, Dr. Lawson may do some additional stretching to speed your recovery or prevent future complications.

PNF stretches are a way to neurologically relax a muscle. They are preformed under a hold and relax sequence. As a patient is put in a stretched position they are instructed to put resistance against the stretch and hold for 5 seconds.

Upon that time they release and relax the muscle and it is stretched to its new length. Whenever a muscle is placed under a sustained strain, the brain communicates to the muscle to relax, so this is a great technique to gain a deeper stretch than normally can be achieved.

Organ Adjusting / Manipulation

This is the use of gentle manipulation to release tension, restriction and scarring. Improving the function of your organs improves the function of your whole body. This IS your health and vitality.
